Naushabah Khan standing up for Gillingham & Rainham
Local priorities
- Tackle the cost-of-living crisis and deliver investment
The tories have proven they can’t be trusted with the economy. Naushabah will seek investment across Gillingham and Rainham, reducing inequality and creating new jobs.
For far too long Gillingham High Street has been neglected. In her capacity as Labour cabinet member for Medway Council, she has already played a role in setting up a Task Force to address these issues. She has been looking at how to achieve in a drive in funding through future levelling up bids and partnerships with the private sector. Working with the police to explore opportunities in increasing safety and tackling anti-social behaviour.
- Fight for better healthcare for all
The tories have decimated Labour’s health service through 14 years of underinvestment. Naushabah will be a strong voice in parliament fighting for more investment across the NHS, and reducing GP waiting times.
She knows that many residents are struggling to see a GP when needed, and face significant delays for key appointments and treatment. The Tory MP has made false promises of delivering a new hospital. The only real way to see the change that is so desperately needed is through Labour’s plan to invest in our health service.
Electing Naushabah and a Labour government, means the people of Gillingham and Rainham will see a £1.1 billion per year investment into the NHS to ensure an additional 40,000 appointments each week.
- Championing children and young people
A whole generation of young people have been left behind and let down by this Conservative government. Knowing what it was like to grow up under a Labour government and the wealth of opportunities this provides for young people, Naushabah pledges to secure their future by ensuring education and training opportunities are available at all levels.
- Ensure everybody has access to a decent home they can afford
Too many people are living in poor quality, unaffordable accommodation. Championing legislation to reform the dismal state of the rented sector and taking on the rise in homelessness are at the heart of what Naushabah will deliver if elected as your MP.
The current Conservative government has U-turned on its promise to afford protections to tenants through “no-fault-evictions”, giving no indication of if or when renters will see Section 21 evictions banned. A Labour government will scrap this, providing renters with more protections in legislation, tackling the renting crisis head on.
- Protect our environment
The future of our planet is in our hands. Gillingham and Rainham will benefit from tougher legislation to improve air quality . In 2022 Gillingham and Rainham saw 580 hours of sewage spillage alone, posing a serious risk to swimmers, local wildlife and anybody using the UK waterways. The Conservative MP did not vote to hold water companies to account and limit sewage discharge into our rivers and seas. Naushabah will take on sewage dumping in our rivers, taking care of our local environment.
A Labour government will give additional powers to the water regulator to stop bonuses being paid until water bosses have cleaned up their filth, ensure that water bosses who oversee repeated rule-breaking face criminal charges and end self-monitoring to prevent the cover up of illegal sewage dumping.
