I recently hosted the Minister of State for Policing and Crime, Sarah Jones MP, at the Howard School in Rainham to launch the Government’s Knife Crime Action Plan.
The plan sets out a clear ambition to halve knife crime within a decade – saving lives, transforming the futures of young people, and protecting communities across the country.
As part of this, school leaders will receive dedicated training to identify and respond to the risks of knife crime, and local solutions will be developed to improve pupil safety and prevent serious violence.
A £1.2 million investment will help fund a range of measures, including mentoring for high-risk students and chaperones on school routes, and I will work with our schools and police to ensure every child in our community can travel to and from school without fear.
