I’d like to thank everyone who came to my Lower Rainham Road meeting yesterday; we had a good turnout from residents on an important local issue.
We heard lots of personal stories from residents, and all parties agreed that improved communication is vital.
Future works will receive proper communication, whether that be sending letters for planned works or providing proper Facebook updates; residents deserve better than the current approach.
This includes improving signage, ensuring it’s clear, dated, with diversion routes, and that signage is removed as soon as works are finished. We also discussed the possibility of a lane rental scheme, which should minimise disruption.
I will be writing to the CEO of Southern Water about their involvement in road closures and to confirm any planned works they have coming up.
I will also be liaising with Medway Council to discuss having “business as usual” signs for local businesses, many of whom have experienced a loss of trade due to road closures. We must protect our local economy.
