As a former Councillor and Cabinet Member at Medway Council, I know how hard funding decisions are for local authorities. At today’s HCLG Select Committee questions, I asked the Minister for Local Government, Jim McMahon, about the steps being taken to reform local government funding models to ensure their long-term viability.
I agree with the Minister, the majority of people want to see the benefits of the basic services their council tax pays for. Over the last few years, trust in the system to deliver has been broken. We have to rebuild it.
